Debunking the myth that earth is stable (Atharvaveda 6.44.1)
Namaskar,
CLAIM
1.Earth stands firm and still, undisturbed. This entire cosmos is firm and undisturbed. The high standing trees, dreaming and sleeping, stand still. Let this malady too stand still, it must not aggravate. (Atharvaveda 6.44.1)
2.Of all kinds of gifts, the gift of earth has been said to be the first (in point of merit). Earth is immovable and indestructible. (Mahabharata 12.62.2)
REBUTTAL
Lemme ask something. If, vaidik shaastras state that the earth doesn't move, then why would they state even sun as immovable? Aitreya Brahmana states स वा एष न कदाचनास्तमेति नोदेति। The Sun does never set nor rise. It states further that how one side of the earth experiences day and the other side experiences night.
Especially when the preceptors of Sanatana dharma knew that the earth is spherical. There's a similar verse in Vishnu Purana 3.8.15 where it states that the sun neither rises nor sets - नैवास्तमनमर्कस्य नोदयः सर्वदा सतः। Vishnuchitta Swami ji explained it with respect to spherical earth - गोलकाकारां भुवनुपर्यधोभागेन प्रदक्षियतो ज्योतिश्चक्रस्यार्द्ध तत्स्थग्रहांश्च भूम्यर्थमेवाच्छादयति तेनोदयास्तमयवैचित्र्य व्यवस्थिति वदन्तो ज्योतिर्विदोऽपि पौराणिकरीत्योदयास्तमयव्यवस्थोपपत्तेः भूमेर्गोलकाकारानुपपत्तेश्व निरस्याः ।
If both the sun and the earth are stationary, then the phenomena of day and night would've been impossible. Therefore, we need to consider heliocentric model along with a moving earth. Especially because the scriptures have stated that the sun's gravity keeps the earth stable सविता यन्त्रैः पृथिवीमरम्णादस्कम्भने सविता द्यामर्दृहत् । (Nirukta 10.32)
Furthermore, the Mahabharata chapter referred to by the mleccha deals with bhumidana i.e. donating land - न भूमिदानादस्तीह परं किं चिद् युधिष्ठिर ॥ Land is an immovable asset. Similarly, the Atharvaveda mantra refers to the immoval land as Prithvi and not planet earth.
